VOLUNTEER: An opportunity to Empower rural Youths in Kenya
AHADI is offering opportunity for professionals and anyone with passion to empower rural youths in Kenya. This opportunity is meant to spearhead and/or improve the existing initiatives that are tailored for the empowerment of youths. Such initiatives include but not limited to empowering young people to make sound life decisions for their individual development, providing youths with skills, facilitating appropriate career choices, providing platform and network for employment and opportunities for income generation, etc.
Areas of focus
- Sensitization about HIV & AIDS; spread and treatment
- Offering support to orphans and vulnerable young children in schools
- Engaging youths in various community projects,
- Offering microfinance trainings (saving and lending)
- Capacity building for the youths,
- Computer and technology literacy,
- Community library,
- Organic farming and technology training,
- Eco-tourism; environmental education and management.
Duties and responsibilities of the volunteer
- To empower youths with financial literacy (microfinance development; saving and lending)
- To enhance productive livelihood and well-being for young people living with HIV/AIDS and their families.
- To source for partnership with relevant stakeholders in the mitigation of spread of HIV among the young people and sensitize them on infection preventive measures that include delaying of their sexual debut.
- To establish a well-equipped Youth Resource Centre that shall facilitate learning for youths, orphans and vulnerable children. The resource center shall also serve as a hub for practical community and career development information to local community members.
- To engage Youths in efforts to mobilize and enhance income-generating activities.
- To assist youths in initiating enterprises that will increase economic productivity, and lead to poverty-reduction and wealth creation.
- To develop eco-tourism and environmental management activities in the region as a source of revenue for young people in the villages.
- Inculcate reading and writing culture among the young people through initiating writing competitions and awards. Volunteer can also help establish community library
- Engage youth in safe activities such as sports, script acting, career development and drug abuse trainings, as well as building overall awareness and engagement through youth group projects.
Requirements
- Possess an understanding of youths and community level work and the importance of collaborating and coordinating with other organizations and stakeholders;
- Effective communication and documentation skills;
- Ready to to learn Cultural and linguistic for the population served;
- We seek talented, dedicated individuals from all walks of life who possess a strong commitment to this mission.
- Relevant personal experience is a plus.

Volunteer as Health Educator in rural Kenya
This opportunity provides anyone interested in Community Health promote, maintain and improve it by assisting individuals and communities to adopt healthy behaviors in our rural community in Kenya Kenya.
Duties and Responsibilities
- To determine Community Health Needs and the availability of services, and to develop goals for meeting needs in the community
- To develop and present Health Education and Promotion programs such as Training, Workshops, Conferences, and school or community presentations in the community.
- To develop operational plans and policies necessary to achieve Health Education objectives and services.
- To develop, conduct, or coordinate Health needs assessments and other public Health surveys.
- To prepare and distribute Health Education materials, including reports, bulletins, and visual aids such as films, videotapes, photographs, and posters.
- To provide guidance to our organizations in the assessment of Health Education needs, and in the development and delivery of health education programs.
- To provide program information to the public by preparing and presenting press releases, conducting media campaigns
- To develop, prepare, and coordinate grant applications and grant-related activities to obtain funding for Health Education programs and related work for our organization.
Requirements

A visit to the Program site and excursion into Mau Forest

On the morning of Thursday, August 09, 2018, our program participant, Keumsook Yang from Korea, visited the Program site (Our Partner Orphanage) and was introduced to the kids and staffs.

At 12 Pm, the Participant and staffs of AHADI, embarked on an expedition into one of the Kenya’s Water Towers; South West Mau Forest which is a 5 Kms from the Program site.

This is a forest that has a rich biodiversity and is a home to many rare and indigenous trees and animals. It houses, for example, elephants and the critically endangered Mountain Bongo.

The forest also serves ecosystems beyond its boundaries with its rivers feeding up to six lakes, among them Lake Victoria, and supports eight wildlife reserves including the Mara and Serengeti.
At 5:30 PM, it was time to return home; full of excitement.
